'Star Wars' coins let you pay in Yodas

Following up on last year's popular launch of official "Star Wars" currency, the New Zealand Mint revealed a new set of coins featuring Queen Amidala, Yoda, Darth Maul, and Anakin from the epic sci-fi prequel trilogy.

The colorful 1.6-inch diameter coins work as $2 legal tender on the tiny South Pacific island country of Niue and individually contain one ounce of .999 silver. A ripple in the Force indicates that few people would probably actually spend these collectors' items, and if they do, they may get clubbed over the head by Yoda's cane.

Each $414.17 set of "Star Wars" coins, limited to a run of 7,500 sets, comes in either a Darth Vader or Millennium Falcon case that plays a sound (Vader's breath or the Falcon entering hyperspace, respectively) upon opening. Just imagine how much geek cred that would add to the museum section of a man- or woman-cave. For a limited time, those who order early also get a special set of four gold plated coins with Luke, Leia, Darth Vader, and R2-D2.

The reverse side of all aforementioned coins feature The Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II, sovereign of the commonwealth of Niue.
